Prayer
A Prayer for Wellness
(but “Are you sure, sweetheart, that you want to be well?”
-Toni Cade Bambara, The Salt Eaters)
Lord, we who seek wellness ask for the power to do the work,
to show up when absence feels understandable,
to start over when quitting feels reasonable,
to reimagine our lives even when there’s safety in familiar discomfort.
Lord, we believe there is purpose in the truth of our prayer,
so we admit today that while we have power,
it is you who is all powerful,
And we ask you to intercede for us.
So, God, cover our lack of motivation with a call to ministry,
reframe our lack of discipline with discipleship,
our lack of grace with your goodness.
Give us the strength to show up for our communities,
to show up for our families,
to show up for our friends,
and to show up for ourselves.
We know that you can,
So we trust that you will.
It is in the name of Jesus that we seal this prayer.
Ashé. Amen. and ALLWOMEN.
“Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time.”
— Zora Neale Hurston
